Guided wildlife excursion in Örö Fortress Island

Örö Fortress Island is a former military island, which nowadays belongs to the Archipelago National Park. The island in the archipelago’s outer archipelago is a true nature paradise and a spectacular cultural-historical destination. *

An experienced and professional guide will guide you to incredibly diverse nature and fascinating history of the island.

The large number of endangered spieces, 3.5 kilometers long sand beach on the west coast of the island, and 18 Natura -nature types on one island in the spectacular outer archipelago scenery, guarantees experiences and memorable archipelago moments that will invigorate even an experienced nature wanderer.

The guide also dives into the fascinating cultural history of Örö.

Excursions and rates vary according to the duration of the trip. Below you will find a presentation of every Örö nature and cultural history tour offered by the Archipelago.

1.5 hours excursion

The guide will introduce you to: The 12 “barracks, the history of Örö, the traditional landscapes and the diverse of Örö. The length of the route is about 2.5km.

This is the shortest excursion. Guidance is best suited for groups with weaker participants or groups wanting to make a Örö day tour, lunch and cannon tour.

Price

– 170 € / group, if the group size is less than 14 people
– From 15 people upwards,  8€ / person will be added. For example, a group of 20 people will pay 170€ (14 person) + 48€ (6 person) = 218€
– Groups over 30 persons 300 € / group

Two Hours Tour – West Coast Tour

Guidance will introduce, among other things, 12 “barracks, the history of Örö, the traditional landscapes, the sand beach of west coast their special features. The length of the route is about 3.7km. Departures not later than 14:30.

This is an excellent tour for all groups who want to experience the most magnificent nature of Örö at one time with a short sight.

Price

– 200 € / group, if the group size is less than 14 people
– From 15 people upwards, 8€ / person will be added. For example, a group of 20 people will pay 200€ (14 person) + 48€ (6 person) = 248€
– Groups over 30 persons 330 € / group

There are two options for four hour excursions:

Option A – Southern Round

Guidance will introduce, among other things, 12 “barracks, the history of Örö, the traditional landscapes, the sand beach of west coast, the 6” barracks, the southern end of Örö and their special features. The length of the route is about 7km.

Option B – Northern Round

Guidance will introduce, among other things, 12 “barracks, the history of Örö, the traditional landscapes, the sand beach of west coast, the northern end of Örö and their special features. The length of the route is about 7km.

At four hour excursions we will keep at least one 15 minutes of break. Departures not later than 12:30.

This is an excellent tour for all groups who want to experience the most amazing nature attractions in Örö and a bit more. Participants are required to have good basic healthy condition.

Bicycle Tours

Three to four hours guided cycling tour. You can explore the most beautiful destinations on the island by cycling and walking.

NOTE! A bicycle tour can only be carrenged only if it’s possible to rent bikes for everyone from Örö.

– 260€ / group, if the group size is less than 14 people
– From 15 people upwards, 8€ / person will be added. For example, a group of 20 people will pay 260€ (14 person) + 48€ (6 person) = 308€
– Groups over 30 persons 375€ / group
– In addition, the bicycle rental costs 8€ / person

All prices include:

– guided excursion to Örö island
– the guide’s travel expenses to the island
– VAT 24%

Prices do not include customer travel expenses on the island.

Shorter and longer excursions can also be arranged.

Departure place

If the group arrives in Örö with their own boat, they will begin their tour at the Örö guest harbor information board.

If a group departs from the port of Kasnäs on a communications traffic, we will meet in Kasnäs before the departure of the ship. More information at booking.

Departure time

Tours can begin at Örö at 11:00 am (leaving departure from Kasnäs at 10:00 on board) and no later than 14:30. Departure time is more detailed with the customer when ordering.

The starting times are valid from 26 June to 13 August 2017.

 

Service available

The guided tours are available all year round.

Guided tours must be booked at least three days before. During the summer season, guided tours can also be made at previous day by calling 0407700065.

Cycling tours must be booked at least four days before to ensure the availability of bikes.

– The necessary personal medicines, if needed,

Guide

The Örö guide is an experienced nature guide Ville Laitinen, who has been guiding at Örö since 2013, when the island was still in military area. At excursion you will discover the special features of Örö and the Archipelago Sea, as well as more specifically to Örös fauna, flora, natural habitats, geology and the fascinating history of the island.

* Örö is one of Finland’s most important concentrations of endangered species and habitats. Particularly, Örö is known for its precious and varied butterfly and plant variety. Butterflies are more than 1650 species, which is as much as 60% of all Finnish butterfly population. There are also some plants, that are not growing anywhere else in Finland, but Örö island.

Almost 350 types of endangered species have been found from Örö. The average number of endangered species is 1.5 per hectare, which is more than anywhere else in Finland.
